Treatment
Depending on severity of disorder and initial treatment response, some doctors and treatment teams may recommend various approaches for patients with bulimia.
-Support groups: The least expensive approach, helpful for patients with mild or no serious medical conditions.
-Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT): the preferred first treatment for patients with bulimia who do not respond to support groups.
-Drugs: antidepressants as well as drugs to treat some of the long-term medical conditions.

-A Speech Language Pathologist may become involved in the treatment of an eating disorder if certain medical conditions become problematic. Long-term therapy is beneficial for bulimia and anorexia sufferers, as psychological consequences of the condition usually persist long after physical symptoms disappear or decrease .
